TY ASSOCIATES: Tying it all together

This is a basic checklist upon receiving your tax returns via u.s. mail or another third party delivery. Before mailing them, we are making sure the necessary information is properly placed and professionally done.

Step 1: (optional) You can call Ty Associates at 800-219-4885 to give you the vital telephone directions or you can simply continue to read through this text and learn how to put "the finishing touches" to your documentation.

Step 2: You can sort through this package and arrange your documents where the federal portion of the return is "set aside" the state & local portion is "set aside" and your personal copy is "set-aside.

Step 3: (a) You can now observe your w-2(s). Most w-2(s) come in multiples of 3 or 4. They must be separated at the perforated lines or cut with a scissor and organized in at least 3 neatly arranged stacks before being stapled to your tax documentation. (b) Most w-2(s) are distinctly marked for the specific purpose they serve. One for your personal records, one for the federal portion and at least one may be two for the state & local portion; note: It's not necessary to follow this particular step as detailed as I've described, but it helps in the way of organization and professionalism.

Step 4: Repeat step 3, according to the number of w-2(s) and/or 1099-R forms that were sent to you by the various jobs that you've worked throughout the tax year and your spouse, if it is a joint return. If unemployment was received and federal taxes were removed, you must staple it to your federal return-only.

Step 5: Please sign your return in the designated areas for signatures, usually at the bottom of page 2 of the 1040 and 1040A, as well as the IT-200 and IT-201 (NY state & local). Only the 1040EZ has a designation at the bottom of page 1.

Note: Only these base forms require a signature, all other forms, it's optional to sign the supporting documentation pages.

Step 6: Double-check everything to make certain or just give us a call. As our business relationship continues throughout the years, you would do us a great service if you could master these instructions.

Step 7: When placing the documents in the pre-addressed envelope, please make sure that the state papers goes within the state envelope and the federal papers goes with the federal envelope. For the federal, look at the top of the 1040-U.S.individual income tax return and use the envelope that say "internal revenue service center".

Step 8: Please place the proper postage and your return address. Now, you are ready to mail them.

Thank You
